Sustainability

Responsible operations

At Base Energy, we recognize that the actions we take today have a significant impact on our future. This drives us to operate sustainably and meet the needs and expectations of our stakeholders, people and host communities.

Sustainability is core to our cultural values and our long-term business values. We subscribe and are guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).

Sustainability pillars

The five pillars below which are aligned to the UNSDGs, guide our approach to sustainability, across our business activities and strategic planning.

Economic

Base Energy has developed an operating model that ensures safe, responsible and cost-effective operations.

The disciplined execution of this model together with the development of high-margin projects will ensure economically sustainable for Base Energy and its stakeholders, primarily the people of Ghana.

Our business model is centered on acquiring licenses onshore or in shallow water that already have discoveries and commercializing quickly. This reduces exploration risk and maximizes value creation opportunities.

Health safety and environment

Health, safety and minimizing adverse environmental impacts are our number one priority at Base Energy. We believe that if an activity cannot be conducted safely, it should not be at all.

It is also our duty to protect everyone that is involved and impacted by our operations and that everyone has the right to go home safely.

We are committed to being the safest and most environmentally friendly energy company creating a positive impact for our host communities.

Climate change

UN Sustainability Goal 13 calls on all of us to “take action to combat climate change and its impacts”. Base Energy is ready and willing to play its part.

We are committed to being a net-zero company for scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2050 or sooner. We will achieve that by developing our fields with best practice emission reduction solutions, exploring carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS) opportunities and engaging in climate projects.

Mutual prosperity

Base Energy aims to build and maintain longstanding relationships with our host communities and governments. We will do this through engagement with stakeholders and including them throughout the lifecycle of our operations on matters that are important to all of us.

We are committed to creating economic, employment, training, education and other enterprise opportunities for our host communities.

Ethics and compliance

The Board and Management of Base Energy is committed to the highest levels of social and corporate governance.

We believe that for the company to achieve its vision as a leading energy company, it is necessary to meet the highest standards of safety and environmental performance, governance, and business conduct across all our operations in Ghana and internationally.

Net-zero committed

We are committed to being a net zero company for scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2050 or sooner. We will achieve these targets by developing our fields with best practice emission reduction solutions, exploring carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS) opportunities and climate projects.
